Omega
Centauri was inspired by looking at images from
the Hubble Telescope. The sheer beauty and majesty
of these images is breathtaking to
me. When I saw an image called Omega
Centauri, I saw it as a piece of modern art and knew I
had to re-create it as one. According to the image
description from the book "The Hand of God", Omega
Centauri is a giant globular star cluster which is well
known by observers of the southern sky. It is
relatively close (17,000 light years away) and immense
(150 light years across) and contains more than one
million stars. I don't think I got quite one
million dots on this piece of art, but it felt like it
when I was making it. There are many thousands of
tiny dots in many different shades and colors and
multiple layers of glazing that make up this piece.
In the end it looks like a soft glowing red/orange
light that conveys great depth and pulls the gaze into
the center. This would look great in a modern home
or office.
