Thought Parasites & Parasite Purging
Thought parasites usually get passed onto us at a very young age
before we have the logical abilities to challenge them. Usually from well meaning parents, teachers and other authority
figures in our lives who think they are only helping us and don’t even realize that they are infecting us
with the thought parasites that they themselves were infected with as children and this goes back
indefinitely as these parasites go from one generation to the next surviving and thriving regardless of the
time period in which their current host mind lives. There are no new thought parasites- they are just the same ones
that have been around since the dawn of time being recycled from parent to child. These parasites are so sneaky that no one even knows when they are
infected and that they are infecting their children.
A thought parasite is
nothing more than an untrue thought that is believed as true and begins to hijack some of our attention and
therefore our energy away from us. One of the cardinal rules of life is this: “where attention goes,
energy flows” and it takes attention and energy to nourish and sustain any thought- including a thought
parasite. No thought has life of its own- a thought is only a potentiality,
but it will remain just that until it is nurtured sufficiently by our attention and
energy. By the time we’re young adults these thought parasites have become
well established beliefs with well attached tentacles that have hooked part of our attention and quite
literally suck some of our attention and energy away from us. At this point, even if we no longer want to believe that
particular belief and we desire to just “let it go” we find that it’s not so easy. That’s because the thought parasite is fighting for its life and
for its survival of being passed down to the next generation.
Here are a few examples of Thought
Parasites:
- "I'm not good enough"
- "I should be different"
- "I need to know what to do"
- "I have to be careful in life"
- "I have to work really hard to be
successful"
- "I can only grow through overcoming
trials"
- "The world is a dangerous and unsafe
place"
- "I need to understand why ______
happened"
Your Thought Parasites are the source of much of your stress and
anxiety that you experience in life. One of the core processes that I do with all my clients is train
them in a process I call "Parasite Purging" where we identify thought parasites that are alive and well
in their thinking patterns and then one by one we "purge" them. This may be something you'd like
to get a taste for in your Exploratory Conversation with
me.
