Abstract in Brown is a series of four pieces- each one similar, but each one unique. The original used mixed media including burlap cloth, hemp string and glass tiles which gives these lots of texture and interest. There are many different layers and glazes to these that give them a warm depth.

Amber Abstract is a series of three abstracts originally created for an office conference room. They can go together in a set of three or two, or individually. Though similar, each one is unique in many ways. These look great in an office conference room, or in a hallway or office.

It's easy to see how vanity applies to ambition- but let's come back to that other state of mind we all know: anxiety. Can anxiety be another form of vanity? I had never really considered this to be the case until I read the following passage from the Bhagavad Gita:

While Life is supposed to be challenging, most of us manage to make it way more difficult than it needs to be. The following quote says it about as good as it can be said:

Autumn Abstract combines deep browns, oranges reds and golds with some stark copper metallic highlights. There is a lot of texture to this painting as well as some three dimentionality. Gold mica flakes also make a cool sparkle in parts. This one would make for a great piece in an office or a home that is into contemporary/modern art.

Copper River Sunset was inspired by a piece I saw one day in a furniture store. Of course this turned out differently, but I love the colors and the surreal metallic copper river running through the piece. Makes for a great accent peice for home or office.

This poem was written in response to pondering a passage from the Tao te Ching (verse 12) and through my own experience in realizing the difference between the world without and the world within. I hope it may strike a chord for you and maybe give you some added peace and confidence along your life path.

Golden Valley was inspired by a painting I saw in a mail order art catalog. I tried to "re-create" the scene from a small paper cut-out. Of course it turned out different, but if you have a feeling you've seen this one or something like it before- you may have. I love the bold colors which bring this country scene to life with a vibrance and a glow that make it surreal.

I am a clarity catalyst. I help people access greater levels of clarity in their lives. There is no end to clarity. And the more clarity I access, the more fearless and peaceful I become and the more deeply I enjoy life. To the extent that I am not fearless, peaceful and enjoying life, I know that I am not seeing life clearly.

How to compare yourself to others. We all compare ourself to others- we might as well do it right and feel grateful instead of wrong and feel miserable or lacking.

The small self in all of us has a need to add more words to I AM. I am _________ (a man, a woman, a conservative, a liberal, a jew, a muslim, an American, an African, a father, a mother, a husband, a wife, a doctor, a teacher, a businessman. I am angry, sad, depressed, happy, stressed, joyful, guilty. I am not good enough, I am not like you. But the Big Self in all of us just patiently waits for all the additional words to loose their meaning and for the realization that I AM. (And so are you).

To me this represents the elemental forces that were present in The Creation of the Earth. Fire, Water, Earth and Metal are all present in this piece as are some of the basic shapes of sacred geometry- or the geometry of nature- the circle, the spiral, and the rectangle. To me it represents creative energy and the transition from formless energy and light into semi-formless liquid into solid form.

Some well meaning people in your life may have tried to teach you that self-esteem is a birthright, something we have only to claim by repeating affirmations or mantras. Others may believe that self-esteem is a gift that parents or others give children by telling them how much they are loved and affirming how great they are. These beliefs are based on half truths, and as such are non-productive.

This one gets a little personal. It was written as an anniversary gift to my wife (and timeless old friend), Beverly. In 1990, while we were both going to college and dating, I went to Denver, CO that summer to visit her at her home and meet her family. As part of that trip, we took a picture sitting on the steps of the Colorado State capital in downtown Denver. There is a step with a little metal plaque marking the spot at which you are one mile above sea level- which is what gives Denver it's nickname of the "Mile High City." We were married the following summer of 1991. Then in 2010, on a family vacation back to Denver to visit Beverly's family, we went back to the Colorado State Capitol and took another picture there- but this time with our six children. I originally just wanted to have the two pictures side by side, but when I saw them, I knew it needed a poem. This is how it ended up turning out. Even though this one is more personal, I hope you can find universal meaning in it and feel the same feelings of wonderment at just being part of Life Eternal.

This is a surrealistic look at the Mesa Temple in Mesa, AZ with a glowing desert sunrise as the backdrop. There are many photos of the Mesa Temple, but I wanted to create something different and new that couldn't really be captured by a camera.

There are over 300 individually painted squares that make up this mosaic piece. No two are exactly the same. The original is actually made from individually painted 1"x1" wood squares of differing height. This is meant to give an impression of a pristine beach sunset.

Patchwork Panorama is a great abstract patchwork piece. Each of the rectangles in the original is a seperate piece of wood painted in it's own unique way. I utilized many different textures and painting effects that all blend nicely together. This peice looks great down a long hallway or over a credenza or sitting chairs in an office. It also works well over a couch or bed in a home environment.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a spiritual GPS system that would do the same thing for us spiritually- help us get from where we are where we want to be spiritually? I believe we do have such a thing and we come with it already pre-programmed with our final destination.

Spiritual growth is a process a lot like the “chipping away” process a sculptor uses to chips away at a stone- removing bit by bit everything that is not true- not part of the sculpture.

Using a color palette of reds, browns and golds, I wanted to create a scene as though one is looking out of a tiled window across fields of grain towards a setting sun igniting the western sky in a blaze of glory. This one will look great in a tall art niche or on a narrower wall at the end of a hallway. It would also look fabulous in a matching set of two on either side of a door or entry.

This one came to me in a flash of awareness and I had to drop what I was doing (which was doing research for some writing I was undertaking) and get the concept to manifest itself in words. It was (and always is) a surreal experience to feel like something is coming through you, not from you. That's how I felt as I wrote this. I hope it helps you in some meaningful way.

This poem was written to my wife in an attempt to give some added perspective to her current life of being a full time mother to six wonderful children. I originally wrote this poem as a Christmas gift to my wife in 1997 when we only had two children. It's even more applicable now that we have six. For a little background, my wife has a degree in Modern Dance and was a talented dancer and choreographer before we started having children. There are many days when it seems like she doesn't accomplish anything "important" and feels like she doesn't get any time for herself. I think a lot of mothers can relate. This poem attempts to fast forward to a point in time when the kids are all raised and on their own and it is written as if from them to her.

Think of yourself as the driver of a horse drawn chariot. You hold the reins to two very powerful horses. One horse is the Body horse- it represents the appetites and passions of the physical body- the 5 senses and their desire to be constantly stimulated. The other horse is the Mind horse- it represents your individual mind (or ego) and it's incessant desire to control outcomes and circumstances and to prove itself right.

One of the lessons I've learned in life is that adding good to my life is all about starting- taking the first step. If I want to add something good to my life, I ask myself "What's the first step?" and then I take it.

After reading some of the work of Dr. Emoto of Japan, I became inspired to create this peice. Dr. Emoto has become well known for starting with the profound question, "Does water have consciousness?" To test this, he exposed water to different stimuli and then took microscopic photos of the water crystals that formed when the water was frozen.

Just like the health of the body is a consequence or effect of many inter-related causes, so it is with self-esteem. If we wish to increase our health, we can only do so by working on it indirectly- by working on our diet, our exercise, our mindset, our environment. So it is with self-esteem. If we wish to increase our self-esteem, we can only do so by working on it indirectly- by working on those things that contribute to it.

Can you see self-esteem? Yes, you can. Just as you can see whether a body is basically healthy or basically sick by looking at it for signs of health or sickness that manifest themselves in the physical form, so you can see whether a person’s self-esteem is basically healthy or basically sick by looking at the physical manifestations of self-esteem.
